Product Manager

The primary responsibilities will focus on maximizing the success of our current products as well as development of new offerings. Participation in product and corporate marketing will also be a key part of the job responsibilities.  Duties will include inbound and outbound product management.

Inbound product management responsibilities include:

  • Create and maintain a product roadmap for instruments, applications, updates and development of new products within the portfolio.
  • Support coordination with R&D on product development against specifications and product release schedules as defined in the product roadmap. Identify potential products and enhancements to existing products; conduct market research; generate product requirements; determine specifications, production timetables, pricing, marketing strategies and time-integrated plans for product launch.
  • Responsible for managing full life cycle of products: from concept, to design, prototype production, testing, forecast, cost, commercial production, promotion, support, and finally product end of life.
  • Deliver the operating plan: achievement of growth objectives including market share, revenue, profit and return on investment for all the channels/categories of business and/or key customers.
  • The cross functional management of the product line and product release process with the various company departments (Operations, Quality, Marketing, etc.) to achieve successful product launches as well as continued support for existing products.
  • Participate in steering meetings and provide key input into company-wide product roadmaps.
  • Represent the “voice-of-the-customer” throughout the technical development of new products, which includes the technology platform and application workflows for product roadmap generation.

Outbound product management will include:

  • Input into product marketing materials. Develop a strong working knowledge of features and benefits of competitive offerings. Drive the core positioning and value proposition for the product line. Collaborate with marketing to facilitate the launch of new products, provide content for development of marketing materials, sales presentations and training programs. Assist marketing to develop sales tools and communicate sales strategies and value propositions to sales and customers, including positioning and technical training.
  • Work with marketing to set pricing to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Develop and manage relationships with early-adopter and key opinion leader customers.
  • Participation in the development of corporate marketing.
  • Customer coordination for Early Adopter/Beta customers for new products.
  • Management of Strategic and Key Opinion Leader collaborations for products to ensure effective working relationship and timely adoption of new products.
  • Conduct market research as necessary to define product concept, customer requirement and product specs. Attend selected scientific meetings/trade shows and visit key accounts to interface with customers and gather information on trends, technologies and discoveries affecting product applications.
  • Support coordination of customer product and application training.
  • Product support for sales and applications staff.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product management in the Life Sciences instrument industry. Preference for those with experience within the drug development sector. Proven experience of launching from market studies, concept and product development to full launch in a global scale.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.  Excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to understand life science researchers and demonstrated success crafting communication messages that resonate with this target market.
  • Proficiency in project management, planning, organization, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills to complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ambitious, strong sense of urgency and flexibility, desires to work in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced organization.  The ability and strong desire to “make strategy happen.”
  • Travel:  Approx. 20-30%
