GENERAL COUNSEL – CONSTRUCTION

General Counsel – Construction

We have an immediate need for an experienced construction attorney to provide legal support related to all aspects of commercial construction and a trusted point of contact for senior management.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Draft, review and assist in negotiating construction agreements and other instruments.
• Responsible for updating standardized subcontract agreements, purchase orders, lien/stop payment notice forms, and related processes to ensure compliance with all laws and company policies.
• Responsible for corporate compliance with regard to multi-state and international licensing.
• Implementation and management of document retention and discovery production processes.
• Responsible for working with appropriate company personnel to ensure information responsive to discovery and/or subpoenas is provided on a timely basis to outside counsel.
• Provide general construction related legal advice on a daily basis
• Report to senior management
• Develop and maintain close working relationship with outside counsel.

Requirements:

• JD degree, admission and member of good standing of the California Bar Association.
• Must have 5+ years of legal experience as a construction attorney in the State of California.
• Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating major contracts for large construction projects as well as the ability to provide counsel to construction related claims.
• Experience in responding to discovery related to the prosecution and defense of construction related matters.
• Ability to oversee litigation files and work closely with outside counsel.
• Demonstrated ability to fulfill legal department initiatives, develop legal processes, forms and tools, and successfully interface with senior level management.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and persuade others within the organization.
