Payroll Manager

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead & direct payroll staff
  • Oversee the process and distribution of weekly payroll checks for union and nonunion employees.
  • Responsible to be the backup for all positions within the Payroll Department.
  • Analyze & make recommendations to improve Payroll processes & procedures.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a positive customer service.
  • Reporting and filing to various Federal, multi-states, local, union and other filing and reporting units (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Maintaining and archiving a detailed accurate database of all payroll transactions.
  • Responsible for understanding and maintaining the setup in the Viewpoint Payroll module.

Salary based on experience.

  • Bachelor or Associates Degree in Business Administration, with emphasis in accounting, finance and/or human relations, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including 3+ years of supervising a company payroll program and staff
  • Thorough knowledge of unions, certified payroll, workman’s compensation, Federal, multi-state, and local payroll tax laws and filing, reporting and compliance requirements for the same.
  • Thorough knowledge of employee benefit programs, 401(k), garnishments, disability and other self-directed deduction programs.
  • Experience with Department of Labor audits, union audits, workman’s compensation audits, OCIP audits, and 401(k) audits.
  • Experience with wire transfers and payroll tax deposits and direct deposits.
  • Experience with new hires, terminations, and unemployment issues.
  • Experience with IT system integration, project management, consolidation of payroll function, and internal controls.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger and how payroll system setup integrates with the GL and other modules and the ability to reconcile subsidiary payroll ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Ability to work well under pressure within a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in various payroll applications, MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and ACH processing. Viewpoint experience a plus.
  • Construction industry or job cost experience is a plus
  • Some initial travel required for training
