Position Summary

Reporting to the Radiation Measurement Executive Vice President, the R&D Global Director will have global responsibility for research and development and is responsible for creating and driving a market driven research and development strategy that supports the overall business objectives. S/he will leverage our existing technologies and develop novel technologies with a goal of transforming them into winning new products and solutions. S/he will oversee and managing multiple cross functional project teams to develop, commercialize, and launch new products and is responsible for developing technological roadmaps and creating a vision for the future product portfolios to offer new functionality or address newly identified market needs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, technical oversight as well as general direction, scheduling, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities for the multi-disciplinary group of scientists and engineers
  • Partner with Marketing & Product Management to ensure on-going alignment with market needs and the creation of market driven products
  • Interface with cross functional organizational teams and key stakeholders to ensure designs and products meet both customer needs & regulatory requirements
  • Drive consistent product development processes and reporting across related R&D activities so they are integrated into a related portfolio for active management
  • Identify, lead and manage technical design review process with team, including technical studies, data analysis and documentation
  • Identify and manage internal and external resources to insure successful completing of projects
  • Facilitate the interaction between teams/departments to achieve positive impact on product quality, manufacturability, time to market and overall profitability
  • Create innovative concepts and new ideas for consideration by the R&D enterprise through in-depth technology and market analysis coupled with industry knowledge
  • Create business strategies and implement to plan to meet organizational goals and objectives
  • Identifies new technology trends and opportunities to leverage new / emerging technologies and takes active role in generating multi-generational technology plans and multi-generational product plans
  • Conducts design reviews with the project team to constructively assist the team meet engineering, system and marketing specifications helping the team balance cost, schedule and quality project constraints
  • Technical and technology oversight of all R&D projects; NPD and Sustaining
  • Establish relationships with customers, academia, vendors and other development groups to identify technologies.
  • Identify potential M&A activities
  • Knowledge of the ANSI and IEC standards that relate to Radiation Detection Instrumentation and Dosimetry systems
    • Proven ability to translate these into SW algorithm development
    • Familiar with TLD, gate monitors and fixed contamination detection systems
  • Manage the R&D budget and plan
  • Works with team members to generate ideas, clarify specifications and work output
  • Resolves disputes between team members
  • Reviews safety standards for the finished product and verification / certification details
  • Identifies new technology trends and opportunities to leverage new / emerging technologies and takes active role in generating multi-generational technology plans and multi-generational product plans

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, or Engineering or other related disciplines with 5+ years direct applicable experience is preferred.
  • Substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in radiation detection
  • Experience in a supervisory role, preferably managing teams of engineers or scientists and an outstanding record of successful projects
  • A thorough knowledge of industry codes and regulations regarding the design, use & safety of electromechanical devices, analytical instruments and radiation detection
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities
  • Demonstrated strong leadership qualities, as well as excellent communication skills
  • Hands-on approach in leading a variety of projects and experiments; with the ability to define development project objectives and priorities.
  • Proven track record for effectively driving large scale change initiatives and working effectively in highly matrix organizations
  • ¼ travel may be necessary, mostly in the first 6 months to a year of the job, after which this will slow down.
