Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Vice President the incumbent will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the eCommerce presence.

This role encompasses an international business user community and a global end-Customer base. It includes all Divisions and Business Units supported by eCommerce. This individual is responsible for strategizing, architecting, delivering, and supporting this critical effort.

  • Set the e-Business strategy.
  • Deploy an e-Business Shared Service in a way that encourages broad usage and partnerships.
  • Deploy major enhancement releases on-time, on-budget, and to-specifications.
  • Provide supported divisions and business unit’s general e-Business expertise, services, and programs on an as-negotiated, ala-carte basis per the Service Catalog.

Set the e-Business strategy

  • Function as the chief strategist and business owner for the website hosted on the enterprise web platform. Support the Director Enterprise eBusiness with large scale and diversified website development projects and with creating an integrated e-commerce strategy
  • Represent the supported divisions using the web platform on all e-Business issues to Corporate-level senior management and Division constituents in a proactive manner.
  • Act as the Business’s agent when interacting and negotiating with external vendors.
  • Monitor industry trends and communicate them to senior executives who can then make competitive judgment/investment decisions to guide the e-Business program.

Deploy e-Business Shared Services in a way that encourages broad usage and partnerships.

  • Deploy Shared Service best practices such as a service catalog, service level agreements, and performance metrics.
  • Build a high performing team comprised of internal and external resources that includes key e-Business disciplines (e.g., web design and usability, content production and management, project management).
  • Establish good working relationships with related Thermo Fisher organizations, (e.g., IT, enterprise data management, customer relationship management, marketing communications, local/Division e-Business and marketing teams within Divisions) as well as counterparts within the Customer Channels Group.
  • Establish, communicate, and institutionalize consistent e-Business standards and best practices including standardized user interfaces/look-and-feel for all aspects of the website.

Deploy major enhancement releases on-time, on-budget, and to-specifications.

  • Facilitate, review, approve, and lead the development and execution of all e-commerce projects on the enterprise web platform.
  • Ensure excellent project delivery including scheduling, project planning, resource planning, software selection, outsource/offshore partner selection and management, etc.
  • Ensure that website design and development best practices are fully deployed (and supporting resources with the appropriate skill sets).
    • Requirements gathering, analysis, definition, documentation.
    • Information architecture/user interface design.
    • Use cases/business requirements/functional specs authoring.
    • Q/A and testing planning and execution.
    • Rollout, customer communication & migration, post-launch feedback solicitation triage.
    • Project ownership/management (both internal and offshore IT providers).
    • CMS system implementation and administration.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination of all Thermo.com web development efforts and strategies.
  • Provide general e-Business expertise, services, and programs on an as-negotiated, ala-carte basis per the Service Catalog
  • Support local web-related responsibilities such as daily maintenance, web design counsel, and content management.
  • Train on and support interwoven CMS administration.
  • Develop and deploy project efforts as capacity permits

Minimum Requirements:

The Director, eBusiness will be a person who possesses:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in eCommerce with a blend of start-up, operational, and ongoing project leadership roles, and demonstrated increases in responsibility. Customer-centric large-volume wholesale distribution or retail business experience is strongly preferred.
  • Sound problem solving skills, e.g., ability to objectively analyze current practices, identify root cause problems and improvement opportunities, formulate a range of achievable options, outline relative strengths, build consensus for a preferred solution.
  • Bottom-line results-oriented, e.g., financial and general business acumen, operational mindset, remediation of systemic problems.
  • Executive leadership skills, e.g., leading and inspiring people, collaborative open style, building teams, strong written and oral communicator, strategic thinking, calm under fire, assertive, effective marketer and seller of IT enablers.
  • Robust eCommerce best practice experience.
  • Strategic in a practical way, e.g., understand emerging eCommerce trends, extrapolate them to practical business applications, easily communicate value in layman’s terms.

Education

  • Bachelors of Science in a related field, MBA preferred.

  • Strong communicator in honing messages, written documents, oratory.
  • Leadership: empowerment, strong character, high integrity, healthily competitive, decisive, calm under fire, high-energy, self-directed, goal-oriented.
  • Proven eCommerce experience.
  • Variety of relevant business experience which should demonstrate the ability to quickly study a business, understand the value-enablers, and relate to bottom-line impact, executive presence.
