Senior Water Systems Director

Summary:

Manage and oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the potable water treatment plants, including process control and optimization, and utility conservation/sustainability initiatives. Complete and submit required compliance monitoring reports to regulatory agencies and manage the permits pertaining to the water treatment facility. Hire, fire, mentor and supervise senior staff of plant. Considerable opportunity for promotion in one of the largest free standing for profit utilities companies in the USA and the world.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct a review of compliance monitoring, reporting and permits pertaining to the water treatment facility to establish compliance with current Local, State and Federal regulations.
  • Evaluate the chemical costs for the water treatment facility.
  • Review and/or develop SOP’s for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment facility.
  • Perform a Job Safety Analysis for each routine task performed in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment facility.
  • Develop a Safe Work Plan for specific non-routine operations and maintenance activities.
  • Develop a site-specific Safety Manual for the water treatment facility.
  • Review or develop a Laboratory QA / QC Manual for the water treatment facility’s on-site laboratory.
  • Track all required analytical testing and reporting to ensure that samples are collected, analyzed and reported to regulatory agencies within required timeframes.
  • Evaluate chemical use and dosing rates at the water treatment facility and will make recommendations to improve efficiency.
  • Evaluate current residuals disposal practices and present options to reduce costs.
  • Evaluate energy procurement and present options to reduce costs.
  • Provide a list of recommended capital improvements and supporting documentation including life cycle cost analyses and preliminary design/construction cost estimates.
  • Review the Emergency Response Plan for the water treatment facility and make recommendations.
  • Compile various reports as needed.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering, Management or equivalent in experience and education.
  • Current Michigan Water Limited Treatment, Distribution or Filtration Operators License is required.
  • D-1 and S-1 Portable Water Certificate a MUST

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years management experience in a water or public works environment.
  • 5+ years experience in a Water Treatment system and experience managing a work force.
  • Experience with project implementation and control techniques; compliance issues and public bidding laws.
  • Mathematical skills are necessary, including budget and financial skills.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate licensing.
  • Experience supervising and training personnel; consumer relations, planning and budgetary controls.
  • Strong negotiation skills; familiarity with labor negotiations.
  • Experience with Contract Management and Client Relations.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office.
