Sr. Estimator/ Project Engineer – Public Works

We are currently seeking a Chief Estimator with Project Engineering duties in the Orange County area. This position has a number of duties, such as:

  • Produce cost estimates for New Building and Tenant improvement projects. Estimates are comprised of:
  • Participate in bid walks and obtain all necessary information
  • Analyze and evaluates projects on a pre-bid basis and generate necessary questions for bid walk.
  • Analyzes scope of work, drawings, specifications, inquiries and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.
  • Generate pre-bid RFI’s to send to the client and architects.
  • Generate quote requirements and scope letters to send to subcontractors to obtain accurate proposals.
  • Direct cost estimating including quantification, labor, productivity, materials, subcontracts and Prepare detailed and accurate take off for construction estimates. Candidate MUST possess a general understanding and have the ability to price all 50 divisions of work.
  • Estimate Indirect cost including management, construction equipment and tools, support facilities.
  • Consults with Project managers, sub-contractors, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Review incoming proposals and accurately qualify bids received for materials and sub-contractor services with considering all inclusions and exclusions.
  • Prepares bid review package including basis of estimate, schedules, contingencies and cost summary.
  • Develops and implements methods, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc. to inform management of status or work activities
  • Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of product or service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency and to meet the budget.
  • May coordinate activities of other estimators.
  • Maintain database of Subcontractors and Material Vendors.
  • Develop the basic project schedule from bid document information and review it with the scheduler.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of contract structure, insurance and bonding issues.
  • Identify, review and communicate contractual requirements (Risk Factors, Schedule, Insurance, Bonding, Penalties, etc.) with sub-contractors and develop an action plan for the estimate and project construction.
  • Upload and update active project data as well as new project leads into Procore software
  • Help write and manage subcontract agreements and purchase orders
  • Review and Process the project documentation work including submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, subcontractor claims, purchase orders and other procedures, specific to project documentation, as required.

Requirements:

To qualify for the position of ESTIMATOR, we desire:

  • 5 or more years successful estimating in Commercial of remodel, new build and T.I. types of construction. Public work experience is a plus.
  • BS, Engineering, Construction Management or related degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction industry estimating best practices, systems, tools and principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Excellent ability to solve problems, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet deadline.
  • A highly motivated, self-starter individual.
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships internally and influencing decisions.
  • Demonstrate high safety, ethical and professional behaviors.
  • Excellent computer skills to include Word, Excel, Outlook, Blue Beams, Adobe. Procore and P6 are a plus.
  • Ability to travel occasionally
